With an orientation in subtle and clinical trauma, this workshop will educate participants about the effects of trauma and stress on the mind and body, along with providing tools for creating relaxation and healing.
Each class begins with a lecture of how the nervous system functions in the body including relevant research on the impacts of trauma, moving into how yoga helps us work with trauma through research, and finally learning and practicing some skills that can help anyone to feel more at ease, empowered and in control in any yoga class.
About the instructor: Holly Edmonson is a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) who currently teaches yoga at YWCA and the Charles George VA Medical Center. Holly says, “yoga helps me to feel closer to myself and to others, and sharing it brings me so much gratitude and joy.” In 2018, Holly attended a 40-hour training in Trauma-Informed Yoga Practices with David Emerson at the Kripalu Yoga Center. Holly has continued to seek out more methodologies, such as Adaptive Yoga, Yoga Nidra, Mindful Resilience based Yoga with the Veteran’s Yoga Project, and many different mindfulness techniques for trauma, anxiety, depression and recovery. Holly is conducting a small research project with her current classes at the VA Hospital and employs the use of pain and distress measures in order to assure that the yoga and information is needed and effectively applied. For this particular workshop, an optional PTSD or mindfulness survey will give the participants tools for measuring their progress.
