We need YOU to VOLUNTEER!

At the YWCA of Asheville, we eliminate racism and empower women by providing programs and advocacy for over 3,000 community members annually in Western North Carolina with services that support families, promote holistic wellness, and advance racial justice.

Thank you for wanting to share your time and talents with the YWCA! As a volunteer, you are integral to the YWCA fulfilling our mission, and we simply couldn’t do it without your help and support.

YWCA Asheville has volunteer opportunities for individuals and groups. We can design volunteer assignments to fit your schedule, experience, and team-building goals.

  • Aquatics

    Join the fun in the pool as a swim assistant.

    Help children and adults learn the basics of floating, kicking, breathing, and diving, behind-the-scenes administrative work and on-the-deck supervising.

    Flexible time commitment

  • Admin

    Includes data entry, filing, organizing, translating YWCA documents and materials into Spanish and more behind the scenes support across YWCA programs and departments. Volunteers scheduled as needed.

  • Health and Wellness

    Support the YW Health and Fitness staff with facilities, program support, organization and administrative duties. Flexible time commitment.

  • Kitchen

    The kitchen assistant supports kitchen safety and sanitation for the YWCA’s Early Learning Program. Responsibilities include washing dishes, food carts and overall cleaning of the kitchen, mopping and sweeping after service. Ability to do early morning shifts required.

  • Women's Empowerment

    Support the YWCA’s Women’s Empowerment Programming including the MotherLove program which aims to help pregnant and parenting teens stay in school and graduate, access higher education and vocational training, develop the skills and knowledge needed to become strong parents and delay another teen pregnancy. We are committed to ensuring bright futures for teen parents and their families. Flexible time commitment; and the Getting Ahead program which aims to provide financial empowerment for low-income women of all ages and backgrounds to make choices that positively impact themselves, their families and their community. Flexible time commitment.

  • YWCA Garden (Seasonal)

    The YWCA Nutrition Garden introduces students to new vegetables and herbs, and leveraged by our teachers as curriculum in our childcares.

    Responsibilities include planting, watering, pruning, weeding, and harvesting.

    Volunteer Commitment is a minimum of 1-2 hours per week during the months of April – October.

    General garden maintenance experience is preferred.

  • Light A Path Program

    Are you a certified yoga instructor or fitness professional? Our Light a Path (LAP) program focuses on increasing representation and serving underserved spaces. LAP is driven by volunteer certified yoga/fitness instructors who offer class instruction for people who are incarcerated and those in recovery at community partner locations.

    Volunteers are trained in racial justice, physical responses to trauma, and trauma-informed wellness.

  • Child Care

    Join our Early Leaning Program (ELP) or Empowerment Child Care (ECC)! Enrich our Child Care participants with reading, storytelling and group enrichment experiences. Assist staff with snack time including prep, hand washing procedure and clean up. Maintain organized and clean playroom and childcare areas. Complete other tasks as assigned.

    Volunteers are asked to commit 1-2 hours per week and pass a state background check. Applicants must also pass a TB test or have a recent and cleared TB test ready to present. Ability to complete state mandated training for childcare staff.

The YWCA also offers Sustainability, Communications, Events, Advocacy and Racial Justice volunteer opportunities. Please reach out if you have skills that you would like to share!
