Job Description
Title: Class Instructor
Department: Health and Wellness
Reports to: Health and Wellness Coordinator
Position Summary:
Health and Wellness Class Instructors are the energy and motivation behind many members’ journeys through wellness at the YWCA. They help create a welcoming environment for all members to access fitness classes and support members to learn new things and move their bodies. This is an independent contractor position.

Our goal is for the YWCA’s mission to be embedded in every aspect of programming- including our approach to the health and wellness programming provided in our Wellness Center. The ideal candidate for this position has a passion for social and racial justice, women’s empowerment, and an understanding of the role that a holistic approach to health and wellness is an integral aspect of freedom, dignity, and justice for all.
Class Instruction
- Enforces facility policies, rules, and regulations in a customer-friendly manner. Reports to the Health and Wellness Coordinator
- Response to member concerns and questions; take initiative in assisting members when needed and encouraging members to participate in classes and center activities
- Plan, design and deliver fitness classes based on modalities such as Pilates, Yoga, HIIT, Zumba, etc.
- Be familiar with making modifications for different body shapes, needs and abilities
- Log hours, report attendance and respond to emails from YWCA staff
- The YWCA offers training and support for on-going learning and growth of trauma-informed skills
Minimum Qualifications:
- Certifications
- Nationally recognized certifications in personal training or group fitness
- CPR/First Aid certifications within 3 months of employment
Required Skills:
- Skilled at time management and being punctual
- Understanding of what trauma is a what it means to be trauma-informed
- Must be willing to work evenings and weekends
Working Conditions:
Offer instruction in fitness classes that require physical activity for more than an hour at a time.
Rate of Pay: $20/hour contract rate

Title: Personal Trainer/Health Coach
Department: Health and Wellness
Reports to: Health and Wellness Coordinator/Director
Position Summary: Personal Trainers and Health Coaches are responsible for providing customized fitness, health, and wellness programming to YWCA members that include education, support, and guidance regarding evidence-based nutritional guidelines, cardiovascular exercise, resistance training and other strategies to promote well-being while helping the client achieve their wellness goals. This is an independent contractor position.

Personalized Wellness

- Responds to member concerns and questions; takes initiative on assisting members when needed and encouraging members to participate in classes and center activities
- Conducts assessment appointments with members
- Consults with members to determine and define needs and problem areas- using excellent listening skills to meet members where they are
- Develops individual recommendations based on the member’s personal wellness goals
- Educates and assist clients on exercise equipment, use of pool and fitness classes with realistic physical expectations
- Meets regularly with members to continually monitors and assist them in their learning and creation of new habits
- Be familiar with making modifications for different body shapes, needs and abilities
- Log hours, report attendance and respond to emails from YWCA staff
- The YWCA offers training and support for on-going learning and growth of trauma-informed skills
