Caring for the Caregivers: YWCA of Asheville Takes Bold Step Toward Childcare Equity


This new benefit is a direct response to what so many in our community already know: childcare is too often out of reach, even for the people providing it. Early childhood educators and caregivers are the backbone of our families, our economy, and our future. And yet, many still struggle to access consistent, affordable care for their own children.


“Providing tuition-free childcare for our staff is one way we’re living our values,” said Diana Sierra, CEO of the YWCA of Asheville. “We can’t say we believe in equity if the people doing the work can’t access the very resources we offer. This is about honoring our team and also calling attention to a system that doesn’t work—not just for us, but for Asheville, North Carolina, and the country.”
