New Year, New Workshops!

YWCA of Asheville has something for EveryBODY, including workshops that are open to both members and non-members. We’re starting 2024 with workshops that will nurture both your body and your soul, and get you moving!

First up is a six week Hatha Yoga Workshop, beginning just after the new year, on January 4. Hatha Yoga uses alignment based poses to help you link breath and body to build both strength and flexibility. This series will focus on the foundations of a yoga practice and use of props to enhance the experience of poses. Each week participants will look at how props assist in various categories of poses. Whether you have been practicing yoga, or want to begin, come where you are. This class is suitable for students of all levels.

Next in January is an Intro to Argentine Tango Workshop. It’s a 12-week course that begins on January 8, and introduces you to the foundational principles of tango steps, technique, and movement. Class is open to beginners of all genders. No dance partner or special shoes are necessary; come as you are to experience this wonderful class! An additional practice time is included to allow participants to get practice in between classes.

On February 14, we will begin another 12-week Tai Chi Course. This popular workshop will introduce basic Tai Chi principles that are foundational to the practice of Tai Chi. This specific Tai Chi Form has been shown to be effective in decreasing pain, stiffness, and risk for falls while improving balance, strength, and cognitive focus, and more. Tai Chi is often referred to as a 'moving meditation' as it grounds the practitioner while enhancing the mind-body connection.

There’s a lot going on at the YWCA, and we would love to see you here. If you have any questions about any of these upcoming workshops, contact healthandwellness@ywcaofasheville.org
