Black History Month

This February, YWCA of Asheville joins with YW USA in highlighting the importance of Black History as American History, and the critical role that Americans of color have played in shaping all of our history. The theme for YWCA’s Black History month this year is Empowering Communities, Advancing Justice, and it gives a preview of April’s Until Justice Just Is campaign.

Some of the important issues discussed during UJJI will be bodily autonomy, women’s financial empowerment and caregiving, and transportation. The right to maintain control over one’s own body, as well as control over our financial health, and access to safe and reliable transportation are all fundamental and necessary rights for all, but especially for women and people of color. Access and control are essential for quality of life.

Stay tuned for more information on UJJI in the coming weeks, and remember to celebrate Black History every day.
